Legal Status Checking lets you verify the land status of any location on the map — whether it is Crown land, national park, private property, or a heritage site — before you start prospecting.

How it works

Tap any location on the map and DigMate queries the land status data for that point. It returns information on whether prospecting is permitted, what licence or permit is required, and any restrictions that apply.

1. Navigate to your target location — Pan and zoom to the area you want to check.
2. Tap the location — Tap the point you want to check on the map.
3. Check the status — DigMate returns the land status and prospecting permissions for that point.
4. Proceed or move on — If prospecting is permitted, proceed. If not, find a legal alternative nearby.

Use it for

• Checking whether a creek is on Crown land or private property
• Verifying that a target area is not inside a national park
• Confirming the licence requirements for a specific location
• Avoiding heritage sites and protected areas

Is the legal status data always current?

DigMate uses publicly available land status data. Land classifications can change — always verify with the relevant authority before prospecting in any area you are unsure about.

Does DigMate cover NSW and VIC land status?

Yes. DigMate currently covers NSW and VIC. WA coverage is planned for a future update.
